Rule Could Cost Child Support Debtors their Only Income

 

ld child support debts could cost thousands of poor men their only income next year because of a policy aimed at reducing the cost to the government of mailing paper checks to pay federal benefits.

 

The Treasury Department will start paying benefits electronically next March. It will stop issuing the paper checks that many people rely on to safeguard a portion of their benefits from states trying to collect back child support.

 

States can freeze the bank accounts of people who owe child support. A separate Treasury Department rule, in place since last May in a preliminary form, guarantees them the power to freeze Social Security, disability and veterans' benefits that have been deposited into those accounts.

 

Once paper checks are eliminated, about 275,000 people could lose access to all of their income, advocates say.

 

"It's kind of Orwellian, what's being set up here for a segment of the population," says Johnson Tyler, an attorney who represents poor and disabled people collecting federal benefits. "It's going to be a nightmare in about a year unless something changes."

I am in extreme favor of fathers who have to pay child support mothers as well,  I think that the child support laws are totally unfair to most of the fathers out there.

Im not saying they shouldn't have to help take care of their child or children, but to take away every dime give me a break where is the fairness in this.

Especially when the kid isn't going to get the money anyway, and the state is just desperate in finding a way to bail their low lifes out of the hole because of poor planning so instead they would rather say " hey lets take it out on all the people who haven't paid child support.  It's like trying to fit a circle into a square, they are tying to control, and screw people this just gives them the acceptable public way of doing it.

What people dont stop to think about is this,  This doesnt bother you,  you have no kids, but it can  one never knows when they have a kid out there they never knew about until that one day a lovely knock at the door with a kid saying hi dad.

 

 

So many of the mothers to child support payers , so many of the kids never even see a dime, the mother is busy going out, spending it on everything but the kids etc. It is just free money for two people who spread them with out a thought and ended up apart so of course now somebody has got to pay for that kid.

This lovely law was created just to take the heat of the states and the money off the states, they got sick of it, and decided to go after parents.

I dont know this is a very, very grey area each case is different, and each persons reasons are different to.

Either way it goes, I dont think the father should have to give up every dime he makes that's just totally unfair giving money at all is unfair.

If I were a judge for child support and of course I only have the basics, but fathers and or mothers wouldn't give physical cash what so ever.

Once a year the kid(s)  get new clothes for school

( shoes when needed)

Food, I say come up with some voucher or pops takes food over once a week, ( depending on parents needs and agreed system).

housing split it half at least less for the one who makes very little

health care god knows what with Obama in there--nothing is fair
