The Iron Lady - movie review

starring (!) - Meryl Streep, Jim Broadbent

Since life is usually so stressful, my movie buddy and I usually attend comedies or action movies. So it's a bit unusual for us to see a drama.

This movie is incredible. The fact of an older Margaret Thatcher dealing with age, missing her husband and oncoming dementia can be depressing, but I found it lovingly addressed.

The facts of Thatcher's time in office seem to reflect to an extent the political situations that the USA is encountering right now - trouble dealing with unions, unrest, unemployment, recession... etc

The acting was wonderful. Although some of the make-up seemed to be spackled on, the aging of Margaret Thatcher was believable.

All in all... an EXCELLENT movie.

Leslie, I think we are going to have to agree to disagree over this movie...I hated it! I thought it concentrate far too much on her life now (plus speculating on things that are probably untrue) and then skating over all of her life struggles and accomplishments. Streep's makeup man, who according to her Oscar speech has been with her for thirty odd years, did the makeup. I thought her eyes bugged out too much.

'J. Edgar' is my go to film about a historical figure done right. : )

I was shocked that Leonardo wasn't up for Best Actor nore the film for Best Picture.

That's funny since that person won the Oscar for makeup in a movie. I didn't really think this person had as many challenges as the other people nominated for the makeup.
