All the discussion I've heard concerning the recent flap over requiring insurance companies to cover birth control is missing the point. And lets face it, what we're talking about is the pill. Things like prophylactics and diaphragms had been around for decades, but few used them. It was the pill that revolutionized birth control and just in the nick of time too.
I remember the reports back in the 1960's. If the birth rates remained unchanged, by the year 2000 the worlds population would exceed 12 billion and could exceed 20 billion by the year 2010. That was 2 years ago folks. But through education and the pill, that disaster was averted. I mean could you imagine what things would be like with a world population in excess of 20 billion?
And now the Republicans want to go backwards on this too. Ever notice how the Republicans are always wanting to "take America back." I'm sorry, but going backwards just doesn't feel right to me. The only way our society can remain healthy is by forging forward.
Once good Christian folks truly believed that burning a witch was God's will. And then we grew up and stopped believing in witches. Once good Christian folks believed practicing birth control was sinful. Then we grew up and stopped behaviors that threaten our future.
I find it quite humorous the GOP clowns fell for the bait so easily. Did they really think chanting "birth control is a sin" would do anything other than convince even more Americans what a bunch of whacko’s they truly are.
