I had just arrived in London and was staying at the Leaky Cauldron for a few days. I thought it must be dinner time so washed up and went back downstairs to the bar which appeared to be full. There were two young couples at a large table with extra seats so I went to introduce myself and asked if I could join them. To my surprise I found it was Harry Potter and his three friends, Hermione Granger, Ron and Ginny Weasley. I was about to leave when they assured me it would be wonderful to have me sit with them.
They were having roast beef and potatoes that smelled delicious so I ordered the same for myself. Tom, the landlord, served me himself and brought roasted carrots with the meal for which I thanked him profusely. We began eating in earnest then and I saw more than one of the eyeing me speculatively. So I told them about myself and asked how they had fared since things had calmed down.
“Well, Ms Justice,” began Harry. “Please, call me Patti, everyone does.”
“Well, Patti, we are just in town to buy Ginny’s school supplies, she has one more year at Hogwarts before we can get married you see.”
“How wonderful, but aren’t you three going back to finish your last year of school as well?”
“No, we’ve all been offered positions with the Ministry and there is training that goes along with them so will be going there next month.”
“How wonderful for you all. Are you going to be Aurors then?” “Harry and I will be Aurors” said Ron. My wife will be an Executive Assistant to the Minister of Magic.”
“Oh, how wonderful for her.”
“Well,” said Hermione, “I’ve only promised them a year, I want to see which way they go before I decide to stay.”
“Great idea, you never know what people will get up to when they are in office.”
The talking and eating went on for over an hour and I bid them good night. What wonderful young people they were, I could see we were in good hands with them at the Ministry of Magic. And I would have to come back to the Leaky Cauldron again soon if my teaching position at Hogwarts allowed me that pleasure. What a wonderful dinner of roast beef and potatoes and carrots with two glasses of a nice merlot for only what amounted to 22.00 dollars, and priceless companions!
