Journey: The act of traveling from one place to another; a trip. A process or course likened to traveling; a passage.
Where did my own journey begin? Birth. I think we all have that in common. Ahhhh, but my conscious journey to find my own passion in life has gone up and down all my life. My parents always told me I could be anything I wanted to be when I grew up, I just needed to study hard in school. I’m sure I’ll tell my own kids this one day. Realistically, I knew what I was good at early on in school. Reading and writing was great, math and science were a drag. I knew being a doctor, banker or astronaut were not for me. I didn’t really know what I wanted to be until I was a sophomore in college. I was lucky enough to be accepted into The University of Florida where they have an excellent journalism school with a public relations focus/major. Graduating college took a couple of years longer for me. I was a big party guy, had too much fun. I failed lots of classes. I though college algebra would be the end of me. Once I got into my PR focus, I did excel, joined a student PR organization called PRSSA, became an officer and really geeked out. No doubt I found passion in PR. Some of my happiest memories were during my senior year of college.
After graduating, I moved to Los Angeles and worked for a large PR firm for my first formidable years in the City of Angels. I learned a lot in my first “real jobâ€â€¦and in the few jobs after that. Here I am, 12 years later and still hanging tough. A lot has happened this past decade…good, bad and ugly. Mostly good. Am I where I thought I’d be? Yes, and then some. I have a great life today, one I never imagined. What’s next for me on my journey? Who knows. I’m excited about it, whatever it may be. Wouldn’t it be boring if we all knew exactly what was going to happen? If I were a psychic, I think I would be insane. Although I’m not sure if all psychics necessarily know exactly what the future holds. From what I’ve read on the subject, it seems many of them get flashes of the future, almost like puzzle pieces. It would still be maddening. Although I would like a “flash†of winning lottery ticket numbers…please?
Where is this post going? Much like my journey in life…I am not sure…and that is o.k. Tonight I begin taking a workshop on creativity…a road map of creativeness and stuff. I’m excited. Hopefully it will spawn more helpful posts for you, my faithful readers. I shall leave you with some questions…to ponder…as we humans like to do…
Are you where you thought you would be in life?
Are you happy?
Do you know what makes you happy?
Are you open to change?
Are you too busy sweating the small stuff?
Do you have any creative goals?
Do you have any quiet time for yourself?
Do you share your joys in life with others?
How often do you laugh?
Questions like this keep me in-check…sometimes. Remember, simple is good. How lucky are we that we live in an age filled with so much inspiration. What inspiration, you ask? Well, besides the countless books on the subject…you can find inspiration lurking in TV, music, magazines, photography, art, animals, movies, poetry…the list goes on. You have to find what inspires you. Watching the Travel Channelinspires me to visit new places. HGTV inspires me to build a home (or buy a really cool one). The Food Network inspires me to try new eats. The Dog Whisperer inspires me to be a better dog owner. Shows like Modern Family, Happy Endings and 30 Rock inspire me to laugh and share humor. I see these forms of inspiration as cobblestones on my magical little life path…my journey. Although each stone is shaped different, making it unique….they all seem to fit together to make a solid path for me.
What’s your path look like?
