Another name for Plumeria is frangipani. Although its not native to Australia, it grows well here because of the coastal climate. Along with this variety, we also have some with apricot flowers as well as pink and red. But my favorite is the "egg white" kind.

An interesting tree and in the evenings after the sun sets and the temperature cools down, Mag and I go walking throughout our small retirement community and the fragrance from these trees is absolutely magnificent.

I can appreciat that, which reminds me of evening walks in our park in summer, the Black Locus trees are so fragrant. The south side of the 55 acres are fragrant with hunysuckle like scents.

Plumerias have a lovely scent... I like them very much. You should wear a lei of them around your neck and really faint in bliss... ;-)

We have plumerias of various colors and sizes here....I love the ease to grow it. Just stick a small limb in the ground and they will root and start blooming before they're even a foot high!

Neither did I, Nancy. I wanted to learn more about them since their sweet smell permeates our surroundings. As I was reading Wiki I had to laugh....Plumerias are very much like some painted ladies I have observed!!

They are actually a "New World" tropical species, but they have been transported to many tropical environments where they have thrived. As Sonia said in the comment up above, they are easy to grow.

I can't believe you grow plumeria in New England. I always thought they were tender. My Mother grew those, it is the same as Frangipani Pangi, right?

Char, I'm not in New England....I left Boston on the 15th of February and now I'm home in Western Australia (12 miles from Perth)....where frangipani grows in the tropical heat. I'll be here till May 15th and then back to Massachusetts for the summer. Frangipani would die on their limbs in Boston.

:-). I thought so, that's why it seemed weird, cause like I said we used to grow them on Merritt Island, which is considered tropical climate zone. I knew it couldn't deal with the winters. They ARE beautiful in bloom, and their leaves are so interesting, and they grow in interesting patterns, too!

Although we are still jet-lagged, we've been out and about for short stints between naps to take photos. Last night we were up in the hills taking pictures of kangaroos. Lighting was poor so I didn't get any images I could save.
Today I'm staying at home and catching up on things. Mag has been off and running...doctor...blood tests and now he just left again for a stress test. I'm staying cool inside with my new best friend, AC.

I'm making plans for our trip to Europe in June. It's pretty exciting. Looks like Paris, Venice, and Tuscany for a quick two weeks plus travel time.

I love plumeria (easier to spell than frangipani) both the scent and the flower but I didn't have a clue about the lack of pollen. Loved the picture and the poem. Hope all is well with Magi.

Absolutely. Mag can't walk by the frangipani tree without sniffing several flowers and then he says "ahhhhhh".
