Rajon Rondo just got suspended by the NBA. The Boston Celtics are without Rondo for two games after the point guard got suspended for throwing a ball at an official and striking him in the chest on Sunday (Feb. 19). Rondo lost his temper during a game against the Detroit Pistons, reacting to a non-foul call under the basket and losing his temper enough to get ejected immediately from the game.
According to ESPN, the suspension goes into effect immediately as well, meaning Rondo is out for games against the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder. Those are a couple of very tough games for the Celtics as is, so lacking Rondo is going to really work against the Celtics making a run in the Eastern Conference. As the New York Knicks start to race up the standings, this was a key time for the Celtics to put some wins on the board as well.
What might surprise some NBA fans, is that Rondo now leads the Celtics in technical fouls with seven so far this season. That's more than Kevin Garnett, which is very shocking with how he typically plays with his emotions on his sleeves. Garnett may need to step up as a leader in the next week though, especially if the Celtics don't want to get pushed even further down the standings heading into the 2012 All-Star break.
Do you think that Rajon Rondo deserved to get suspended after losing his cool? Can the Boston Celtics survive without Rondo on the court for two games?
