The WWE Elimination Chamber 2012 results are now completed, with the latest sports entertainment show generating lackluster reviews. However, one particular part of the show that got the crowd going was the Smackdown Elimination Chamber match featuring Santino Marella.
Originally the Elimination Chamber was supposed to have Randy Orton as one of the competitors. He was selected along with Great Khali, Big Show, Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes and the World Champion, Daniel Bryan. However, Smackdown GM Teddy Long deemed Orton was unable to compete due to health issues. Long set up a Smackdown battle royal to determine the man to replace him, and somehow Santino Marella won the match.
In the chamber, Marella had the crowd behind him, much like he did when he was one of the final two in last year's Royal Rumble. Marella managed to eliminate both Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes, which may have originally been the plan for Orton. However, it came down to a final two of Santino Marella versus Daniel Bryan for the championship.
Fans were roaring for Santino to score the upset win at the Pay-Per-View, and he nearly did. Santino retrieved his green "Cobra" sock and landed the punch on Bryan, but the champion managed to kick out of a pinfall. Had Santino managed to capture the championship there, the Bradley Center would've gone hysterical. However, it was all a setup for the crafty Daniel Bryan to once again escape as champion. Moments after Santino's very near pinfall, Bryan locked in his submission hold and despite Santino's best efforts, he was forced to tap out.
While Santino gave a valiant effort, Bryan did his usual boasting and celebrating, yelling "Yes!" multiple times as he jumped around. His celebration was shortlived as The Celtic Warrior Sheamus arrived to the chamber. When Sheamus came face-to-face with Bryan, the champ tried to land a strike attack, but Sheamus blocked and hoisted Daniel up behind his back. Moments later, a sideways slam move planted the World Heavyweight champ on his back in the ring. Consider that notification that the 2012 Royal Rumble winner plans to challenge Daniel Bryan at Wrestlemania 28!
During the Elimination Chamber PPV, it was really Santino's eliminations of Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes and the final moments of the match that really had the crowd in a frenzy. While some fans were, and still are, complaining that Santino didn't deserve to be in the match, it was his addition that really added excitement for the live event and for many watching at home. Also, in that moment, fans got a glimpse of a very possible future, with Santino Marella capturing a major championship. Anything's possible in the WWE, right?
What did you think of the outcome of the Smackdown Elimination Chamber? Did Santino deserve a spot in the match? Will Sheamus be able to defeat Daniel Bryan at Wrestlemania 28?
