Yes, and disabled should get their checks, but if the unemployed do get the disability checks, will Social Security go broke sooner?

Yes, for most it is hard to get, but I had a friend who got it the first time that she applied... I looked it up so see why, and the site said, you can get it if you are disabled OR if you are poor... SHe had no income.... so she got it...
I worked with government programs such as ssi , ss, welfare, Hud, etc... A lady told me to watch when Clinton did the so called welfare reform... She warned me that those that get kicked off of welfare will be on the disability rolls next... AND sure enough , thats where they went... Not a thing wrong with them other than they had no income... and the welfare reform was a joke... It actually was cheaper to give them a check instead of paying for their baby sitters while they found a job or went to school... Schools that most of them didnt graduate from, or didnt get jobs in the fields that they had cost the taxpayers money to fund for them... The whole system does need to be revamped...
ANother thing is there are people that shouldnt even be on disability that could work in some sort of job but if they work to many hours, they will lose their checks or medical... Just like the welfare system... So, which would you rather do? Lay around and collect a check or go out into the cruel world work, and pay taxes?
Dont get me wrong, there are people who really need this help and are deserving of it, but if we dont weed out those that dont belong on these systems then everyone who needs this will suffer... They need to cut the welfare benefits,, these people collect checks and dont have to pay a dime in taxes on this money that the government hands over to them.... But yet, if you draw ss or unemployment, you can be taxed for this... Amazing.... Lets all go on welfare... we would do better ...and she was able to work... She had a few medical issues that could of been fixed, but has been collecting a check for over a decade now... There are people who are more disabled and still working... In fact , she was working too, while getting a check and it was legal as long as she didnt go over the amount that she was allowed to..

There's still over three trillion in the fund. All they did was bring the accounting process in line with the accounting practices the government uses. The money was never stolen.

Well this is shocking but, again (and I find myself saying this more and MORE), it shouldn't be. I can literally feel the life blood being vacuumed out of us. One thing this guy is good at and that's being creative at destroying a really good otherwise healthy country. But of course he has all of those czars lending a helping hand. Then he has numbskulls like Gore and Soros on the side, seemingly emptying that vacuum bag into their pockets. Dear God, bring this election soon and protect us through it.

I was reading that the number of college students is rising too, somewhat driven by living off the increased funds available from loans and grants for schooling. Sometimes referred to as "professional students" with no major, or seeking the easiest one available. I know there is probably some truth in that, and was called that myself way "back in the day" with the old GI BILL after years of night school... either pick a major and graduate, or face the wrath of Uncle Sam potentially cutting you off, LOL!

People on disability don't have anything to do with unemployment numbers. Unemployment numbers deal with people who don't have a job but want one, and are available to work. People on disability are, by definition, not available to work.

I've seen a couple of news reports on this, Marilyn. Although it would probably be a bit of a stretch to call some of them "news" organizations.

Some of them just seem to be taking a cheap shot or two at people on disability. Or at the program itself. Or both.

Others (Fox News comes to mind) include ridiculous statements that are demonstrably untrue (for example, that the Social Security Trust Fund is "set to go broke in 2018").

The reason this happens is because liberals keep dipping into money that doesn't belong to them.

if they could work before, how come they are able to get disability now? you have to be sick to get it, can you explain?
