Why do atheists attack Christians? I believe because Christians try to share their beliefs, but if the Holy Spirit has not touched the non-believer, the Christian is just a nuisance. In a comment I shared in an article I said that it is a waste of time and compared it to the metaphor of casting pearl before swine.
It's sad that Christians are treated so, but the truth is if people are not ready to hear the word of God, you are wasting your time, and probably turning people off more than you know.
I was a non-believer, but people used prayer to turn me around. God knows I am not perfect. In fact, when I was offered a job teaching in a Christian school, I immediately said, no. I told the principal I was not worthy. He told me the school wouldn't want me if I thought I was worthy.
Now, as to the atheists' attacks on Christian, I find it interesting that most not all do not attack Muslims. Was it that? Is it that they want to keep their heads? Christians are easy targets, but Muslims are not. Both religions are interested in conversion, but me, I am interested in being the best Christian I can be. There are plenty of people ready to be Christians, but if an atheist is not ready, just pray for them and remember not to cast your pearl before swine.
Matthew 7:6
Jesus said, "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast your pearls before the swine, lest haply they trample them under their feet, and turn and rend you."

Christians even attack and kill other Christians.
Do you want to know why atheists in this country attack Christians, but not Islam, Buddhism, Hindu's and other non-Christian religions? Obviously you don't want to know, or you would have asked. Other religions are not threatening to put their teachings in our schools, parks and public buildings. Other religions are not trying to control us. To protect ourselves, we need to remind Christians that we have rights.
I mean no disrespect but do you read?
I mean no disrespect, but do you think?
If you do, then explain to me how Muslims killing Muslims can justify Christians killing anybody.
I advise that you do a little reading. Musliim countries have little reason to trust Christians. Egypt was under British rule until 1954, and Syria was under French rule until 1946. In fact, until after the end of World War II, the British and French had North Africa and the middle east pretty well divided up between them.
Another stone in the wall that separates us from the realization of our destiny”
Atheists fear what they can not understand. They can't understand the streangth it takes to have faith in something you can't see and they never will.
I took a class in Comparative Religions some years ago and the Christians in the group were awful. They only saw their point of view. Some Arab and Jewish students dropped out. I stopped participating in discussions and told the instructor I disliked the one-sided discussions. I sat with a young Wiccan woman who also rode out the rudeness.
Do you not understand how completely illogical your statement above actually is? If anyone, in any religion, truly believes what their religion stands for and teaches, it is impossible for that person to respect other religions.
If you mean we ought to respect the rights of others to accept and practice their religion, I can see that as a worthy goal.
Look at the battles we now face. Rick Santorum says President Obama's agenda is not based on the Bible. That's illogical in my book. Obama is running a country, not a church and he should not be expected to run the country using a book of metaphors that are over 2000 years old.
Look at how homosexuals are treated? Look at how young women are treated when they are expecing babies they cannot afford to raise. Abortion is a sin (in some person's book) so these women are deprived of their right to chose what is right for their bodies and their families.
Religions are sometimes more about hate than they are about loving God, the Goddess and our neighbors. Yes, I said the Goddess. I am sick of male oriented religions that have zero respect for women and for minorities.
A big problem in this country now is that some people have zero respect for the thoghts and beliefs of others.
Well said.
I remember when I learned as a young person who thrilled I was that just about every religion has the "golden rule" as part of the faith creed.
So there are all sorts of reasons for atheists to attack Christians but don't worry about it. They can't do nearly as much harm as Christians.
You might imagine what making sport of Christians would get you in almost any Christian nation / kingdom from 700-1850. Most of that time you would have been painfully killed. That includes in the U.S. Remember what happened to many Mormons and they were Christians and not making sport.
So I really don't think that atheists have been making sport of Christians for most of the last 2000 years.
And if laughing at Christians is the worst thing that happens to them, you should feel happy indeed. In some places Christians are being killed for their faith.
Christians are trying to make organized prayer a part of the school day. Christians are trying to force public schools to teach creationism as if it was a science. Christians are trying to put religious monuments in our public buildings and parks. Christians are trying to define marriage even for non-Christians. Christians believe that this is a Christian country. Christians are trying to prevent women from using birth control. Christians are opposed to gay and lesbian relationships. Christians have a long history of discrimination against Jews and others.
And most important reason atheists attack Christians: Christians feel that it is their duty to convert us to Christianity.
School prayer: I direct your attention to the Supreme Courts decision in Engel v. Vitale (1962) and Abington School District v. Schempp (1963). In these cases the Court ruled that organized school prayer was in violation of the 1st amendment. Ever since those decisions, Christians and Church leaders have to trying devious methods to get school prayer back into public schools.
"Creationism" or "Creation Science" as some like to call it: Here I call your attention to McLean v. Arkansas 1982 in which a Federal Court overturned the states requirement that "creation science" be taught in public schools along side of evolution.
Religious monuments: Do I have to remind you of Judge Roy Moore who placed a Ten Commandments monument in the Alabama Judicial Building, and then refused to follow a court order telling him to remove it?
Defining marriage: Christian groups have sponsored legislation in several states which defines marriage as being between one man and one woman. Republican presidential candidates who are taking a strong Christian stanch, as Rick Santoran and Mitt Romney, are advocating a Constitutional amendment defining marriage in that way.
Gay and lesbian relationships: Christians have several degrading terms for this. Their favorite is "Sodomy", which is taken right out of the Bible.
Christian country: Christians have the concept that the founding fathers were Christians and that this country was founded on Christian principles. Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and Thomas Paine were not Christians. George Washington and John Adams were probably not Christians, but for political reasons, they kept up the front. James Madison was a strong critic of religions, including Christianity. Christianity had little to do with the Revolutionary War. God is never mentioned in the Constitution. And our laws are not based upon the Bible.
discrimination against Jews and others: I grew up in the '40s and '50s and heard the lies Christians would tell about Jews such as "blood libel". That blood libel myth goes back hundreds of years, yet it still amazes me when I hear it repeated.
Christians' duty to convert us to Christianity: It is called "The Great Commission", and is found in Matthew:
Matt 28:19
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Christianity has used the Great Commission to go into other countries, destroy their culture and convert them to Christianity. The more they can convert, the happier they are. w
Look at the heading of this post: "Why do atheists attack Christians?"
Isn't that lumping atheists together and making a broad generalization about ALL atheists?
The difference is that atheists are individualists and are normally not associated with any atheistic body or organization. On the other hand, Christians are associated with Christian denominations and with Christianity in general. When you associate yourself with a religious group, then you are taking on everything that group has stood for, and represents. Christianity has an ugly history.
I think the biggest problem is people like me who *forget* that not all Christians fit the stereotyped aggressive converter, and then we jump down the throats of the more "normal" Christian who just might want to invite me to a church potluck as a friendly gesture. But yeah, I sure can see where Atheists are coming from - saying 'no' is like putting a "PLEASE STALK ME" banner over the front of my house for some Christians.
Love thy neighbor as you would want to be treated,,
