Daniel Radcliffe is just full of information these days. Recently, the Harry Potter star revealed his atheism and his belief in improved sex education—especially in the US. More recently, he dished on his life as a sex symbol for both men and women.
Apparently it all started when Radcliffe's girlfriend, Rosie Cutter, made him aware of a fact he'd never really thought about. According to Dan, Rosie asked him out of the blue if he found it "weird that some of [his] gay mates think about [him] sexually?" Radcliffe claimed he'd never really though about it, but if they did, it was O.K. with him. Or as he put it:
I don't care who fancies me, I care who I fancy. I got told the other day I had a really nice ass. I didn't know that. I don't mind it. It's fine if people want to make me the subject of their sexual fantasies—good luck to them, fantastic, I'm honoured to be in their dreams. Growing up I never thought that would be the case, so it's very flattering and not something to object to at all.
Good for Daniel Radcliffe. It's unusual and refreshing to find people of either gender or any sexual orientation who are so sex positive and open-minded—especially in the world of celebrities where image is everything. Radcliffe is to be commended for his healthy attitudes toward human sexuality and his lack of homophobia and puritanism.
What is interesting about Radcliffe is not that he doesn't mind being a multi-purpose sex object, or even that he revels in it, it's that he actually believes he's a sex symbol. Furthermore, he always feels his fans—female, male, straight, gay, bi, transgender, or whatever—are sexually attracted to him.
Obviously, Daniel Radcliffe is a good actor and an intelligent young man, no doubt, possessed of many fine qualities, but Mason Ryan he is not. He's cute—sort of—in a child-like Harry Potter way. But a sex symbol?
