Some people may think the Powerball winner wants to remain anonymous, but Rhode Island law requires that the winner make a media appearance. Then again, the lottery winner may have lost the ticket, or forgotten it was even purchased in the first place.
The lottery winner will have to decide whether to take the prize in either the $336,400,000 annuitized amount paid out in 30 annual payments, or a one-time cash payout of $210,000,000. The next Powerball drawing is Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 10:59pm ET. Saturday's estimated Powerball jackpot is $50,000,000 annuity, or $31,200,000 in cash before taxes. The Powerball game is played in 42 States, Washington D.C. and the US Virgin Islands. Powerball winning numbers are drawn live Wednesday and Saturday evenings.
