My middle daughter works on a beauty counter in the local Boots Chemist and she is a fine advertisement for the wares she sells because there's a great deal of it skilfully layered on her face! We met her there today and spoke of Dorothy's sad loss.
WE WERE THERE IN THE MORNING

We were there in the morning
when the painted dolly smiled,
eyes honest like the daybreak,
remembrance of the child...
and we stood awhile and spoke then
of wonders and of life
and our hearts were penetrated,
by her sympathetic knife...
such is the hope and beauty
in the solemnity of years,
that sorrow can be gentled,
with the hopelessness of tears...
we learnt here in the morning
from the painted dolly's heart
that the many different seasons
are not a mile apart.
