The Vampire Diaries season 3 has seen some characters leave behind Mystic Falls—at least for now—but Julie Plec has teased what's going on with Jeremy and Katherine and if they'll be back soon.

According to TVLine, executive producer Julie Plec has revealed, "We will see Jeremy before the season's over," but she wouldn't say anything else, such as when that would happen. Considering the fight between the Originals right now, he's safer where he is. Elena had Damon compel him back in "The New Deal," and he soon left to stay with family friends in Denver. He went to live a normal life. But since he's returning, it looks like that's not possible. Will he remember everything that's really going on in Mystic Falls? Could that be why he returns—he gets some memories back but has no way to really connect everything?
Plec also talked about where Katherine's been since she disappeared, saying she's "MIA" and "smarter than to get herself caught up in all this mess." The Vampire Diaries season 3 is basically a "mess," and since Katherine's perfectly happy looking out for her own safety, it's no surprise she's staying out of the picture for now. With the Original Witch using one of her children to help find a way to kill Klaus by killing all the siblings, not to mention the chaos that ensues with Elena involved, the best place to be is as far away from Mystic Falls as possible. But will Katherine stay away for long? That has yet to be seen, and she could always show up as a secret part of a plan again.
