The Butterfly Farm - Aruba

While my husband and I were in Aruba celebrating our 20th anniversary we decided to visit the Butterfly Farm. The Butterfly Farm was such a calming place to observe such beautiful creatures. It was hard to photograph these fluttering butterflies but I was able to get a few decent pictures.

My husband was able to get many of the butterflies to crawl up on him using nectar. I was not so lucky.

 

 

This is actually not a butterfly but an Atlas moth. (Also known as the Snake Head Moth)The picture does not do it justice. It is actually about 10 inches wide. If you look closely at the wings it looks like a face of a snake. This moth has no mouth so it lives for about a week.

 

The next two pictures are butterflies that I loved but because they were flying around I was unable to take a picture. These are pictures I took of them that were framed in a case and displayed on the wall of the gift shop.

very nice, Chris! I like the pic with the ones emerging from the chrysalis. i've been to Magic Wings up here a couple times but I've never seen any like that before.

Butterflies are special and one of the best rooms in the Detroit Zoo is the butterfly room.

OMG.....those re incredibly beautiful, beautiful photos!!!!! And, Aruba? Wow, you are soooooo lucky to have gone there....I am totally "green" with envy!!!!!! I want to travel all over sooo badly, I can taste it! Sounds like a fabulous place to visit!!!! How long were you in Aruba? Did you enjoy it a lot? Were you able to visit other places while there?
What an incredible experience......I'm really hoping we can start travelling in the not-too-distant future!!!!!

I love to travel but I have to say I did not like Aruba. The beaches are beautiful and the very very small resort area is nice but the rest of the island is a dump. There is not much to do and unfortunately for us it rained most of the time we were there and everything we wanted to do was outside activities. I have been to several places in the Caribbean and it was my least favorite. I use to live I Hawaii and so I do compare everything to there. Aruba is no comparison.

Awwwww, so sorry to hear that.......I know what you mean about the rain, though.....we went on a cruise to Jamaica and Haiti (3 weeks before the earthquake in Haiti, no less!).......seemed like it rained every single day.......with temps between 75 and 90 degrees (in December!).......we still had a great time, rain and all......LOL!!!!!!! Hmmmmmm, guess we won't be travelling to Aruba.....LOL!!!!

That was great! I would have loved to see that. We go to Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh and they have a butterfly room. It is so cool.
