THE BRAT - THE BEGINNING
I. THE CHARGE (poem one)
II. THE CHARGE (poem two)
III. THE CHARGE (poem three)
IV. THE ANOINTING (poem four)
Each warrior whispered in awe, reaching, touching the child again.
"We must anoint her," whispering, carrying her through the burned.
The wind above them shifting away, sweeping, lifting, then returned.
Each warrior, in awe whispering, reaching, touching the child again.
"We must anoint her," whispering, carrying her through the burned.
"We'll anoint with the sap of the willow and pine."
Two stripped the willow and two milked the pine.
"We must anoint her," whispering, carrying her through the burned.
"We'll anoint her with the sap of the willow and pine."
A lad slipped a willow to carve a flute, slipped a willow.
Notched it for chant, rhythm, refrain, slipped the willow.
"We'll anoint with the sap of the willow and pine."
A lad slipped a willow to carve a flute, slipped a willow.
With the brat before him on the rock, he began to play, and play.
The wind above swept down, across him, carrying it away, far away.
A lad slipped a willow, carved a flute, slipped a willow, slipped a willow.
With the brat before him on the rock, he played and played and played.
The sap of willow and pine pouring, from her flame colored hair.
Into the thirsting soil and root systems flowing prophecy, flowing there.
With the brat before him on the rock, he played and played.
The sap of the willow and pine pouring, from flame colored hair.
Warriors chanting and praying and weeping.
From their hands through her hair to the hungry earth waiting.
The sap of the willow and pine pouring, from flame colored hair.
Warriors singing and praying and weeping.
Each warrior chanting in awe, reaching, touching the brat again.
The glad winds above them shifting and sweeping again and again.
Warriors singing of hope, praying and praising and weeping.
