Ray Romano has it all: a beautiful wife of 24 years, Anna, four children, and a hit TV sitcom based loosely on their lives. But just because he's gotten a bit lucky in life doesn't mean that he's immune from hard times. In fact, though they've been silent about it until now, the 54-year-old actor is only now speaking about some recent dark times for their family, as his wife Anna underwent treatment for invasive breast cancer in 2010.
So why talk about it now, nearly two years after the life-changing diagnosis?
"The reason we're going public is to share our experience, yeah, but to have an effect," Ray Romano told People. "Our goal is to help people."
A lofty goal, but certainly one that is attainable between his fame and the resources that it allows the family.
As for Anna, she has made a full recovery, though she can admit it wasn't easy. From concerns over the couple's four children and keeping their household running smoothly, to anxiety over the effects of her chemotherapy treatments - including losing her hair - Anna definitely came out of the experience a changed woman, and Ray Romano a changed man. One who, because of that change, now wants to help others going through the same thing.
Best of luck to the couple on their journey to help prevent and educate others about breast cancer!
