Love Storms At Sea - Rhyme Sublime Prompt Week 4

Glowing morning with love on deck

Headed out to share a small boat

No warning signs, all appeared well

On calm seas we went afloat.

Forever friends, odd first date

Only two seafarers knew

Anything happens out at sea

As a couple, we would get though.

Suddenly waves rocked our boat

Looming storm clouds overhead

Sheets of rain covered our frames

Sights unseen, alive or dead.

Perilous waves struck the bow

He manned the boat, fighting tide

Rod in hand, a bite would come

Going along for the ride.

I locate a quiet cove

Faithful partner, hold on tight

He heeds my word, heading north

Drop my line and get a bite.

Breaking clouds, sun peeking through

Pull on my line, two for me

Docked at last, happened so fast

We knew what dinner would be.

Throughtout the poem, I was enjoying the imagery and wondering about the "real story".

It is a combination of imagery and reality...our first date was a January fishing trip on an unpredictable bay. We both were unsure about each other, with previous marriages and a substantial age difference. The beautiful weather turned stormy and we had to get through it in a very tiny rowboat with an even smaller, hand-driven engine. The waves reached about nine feet and we could not see through sheets of rain. I did manage to catch two fish in a sheltered spot where we could wait out the storm. We were soaking wet, thankful to be alive and knew somehow love was on the horizon...and now 17 years later...we're still fishing and sharing dinner. It's an odd love story and all ours...and we continue to face some serious storms but keep weathering them together.

Good poem, great imagery. Good job in creating the sense of security in the presence of one's lover/help mate in spite of what the elements throw at you. Priscilla, I would also like to hear the "rest of the story

Sistah - one of your best - I love the romance here and water to me is so romantic - what a beautiful beginning to a special life - and now two children later - you're still fishing - lots of beautiful imagery in this personal recollection of your early beginnings which continues to flow smoothly - although I know the waves do get high once in a while - what a lovely tribute - thank you Sistah.
