As the Drake vs. Common beef has slowed to a crawl, one of the rappers involved in this feud has serious bragging rights. Recently, it was announced Drizzy broke a pretty impressive Billboard chart record. Will this latest feat assist him in future recognition amongst his peers, though?
In terms of Common and Drake, one is an elder statesman of the rap game, while the other is still considered new school. Most longtime fans tend to rank Comm among the best emcees in the history of the genre. Drake is considered by a large group as one of the best in the business today, but he also has been much more radio-friendly than Common. Due to that, his sales may have eclipsed others.
With that said, HipHopDX is reporting that Drake has broken the record for most #1 rap singles on the Billboard charts. Due to his most recent hit song, "Make Me Proud," featuring Nicki Minaj, Drizzy now has been at the #1 spot a record 11 times. Previously he was in a tie with Diddy of Bad Boy Records with 10 songs at #1.
Among the other Drake songs to hit the #1 spot are "I'm On One," "Forever," "Fancy," "Right Above It," and "Aston Martin Music." Note that Drake has guest stars on several of the songs, including Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj. The song "I'm On One" was from DJ Khaled and also featured Rick Ross and Lil Wayne. The same can be said for Diddy, though, as he featured guests on many of his hit songs including the likes of Mase and Notorious B.I.G.
Still, in terms of the Drake vs. Common beef, does this give Drizzy something over Comm? While most musicians love putting plaques and trophies up, they also love being considered top of the game. As Top 10 rapper lists come out this year, will Drizzy be ranked in the top 5 or lower? What about all-time? Drake will have his work cut out for him to achieve that, or to take out Comm lyrically anytime soon!

And no, I don't think Drake will ever possess the type of lyrical skill Common displays. It's just not his strength. Drake's skills is catchy hooks and that's about it
