This is no laughing matter: Comedienne/actress Roseanne Barr wants to run for President of the United States. Seriously.
The outspoken TV actress just announced plans to seek the presidential nomination from the Green Party so she can run for president in the upcoming 2012 election. She has already filed her official documents for the nomination, and the party will choose their candidate, whether it's Roseanne or not, in Baltimore this July.
"The Democrats and Republicans have proven that they are servants—bought and paid for by the 1%—who are not doing what's in the best interest of the American people," said Barr in a recent statement.
Since, in Barr's eyes, the other political parties aren't doing a very good job, the actress thinks she can turn things around in the White House as a member of the Green Party.
When filling out her nomination paperwork, Barr added this line to swing the Green Party her way: "Mainstream media will be unable to ignore me, but more importantly they will be unable to overlook the needs of average Americans in the run-up to the 2012 election."
Well, she's right about the "unable to ignore" part, but still, Roseanne for president? Really?
Can you imagine her piercing, shrieking voice during one of those lengthy presidential candidate debates? Would she burp into the microphone? Crack a few bad jokes? Even worse: Would she butcher the National Anthem—again—like she famously did back in 1990? Yikes.
If anything, Barr does have built-in name recognition and loyal fans from her stint as a hard-working blue-collar mom on TV's Roseanne, but is it enough to secure her a nomination or the presidency?
What do you think of Roseanne Barr possibly running for president? Does this make you long for the days when Donald Trump was talking about running for president too? Will you vote Roseanne in 2012?
