Members of the Duggar family of TLC's 19 Kids & Counting fame are filling in for Rick Santorum on the campaign trail in light of the candidate's daughter's recent hospitalization. This isn't the first time the Duggars have helped out either.
According to a report from USA Today, a few of the Duggars flew to Florida to fill in for the candidate so he can be with 3-year-old daughter Bella Santorum in the hospital. The little girl suffers from a
condition called trisomy 18—something most children don't survive.
With Duggar patriarch Jim Bob Duggar at the helm, family members will appear in both Sarasota and Punta Gorda, Florida in place of Santorum himself on Monday. Strong believers in their candidate, the Duggar family and the Santorum family actually have a lot in common. Both families are strong believers that life begins at conception and that all life is precious. Both families understand the heartache and exhaustion of caring for sick children. The Santorums' daughter has an extra chromosome. Most children suffering from this disorder don't even survive childbirth. The Duggars' daughter Josie was born after just six month's gestation and suffers several chronic illnesses as a result.
The Duggars campaigned aggressively for Rick Santorum in Iowa prior to the caucus, too. That said, they certainly have experience along the campaign trail and will likely do a fine job of filling in while in Florida.
Do you think prospective voters will be upset when they find members of 19 Kids & Counting instead of Rick Santorum on his scheduled campaign stops? Or will they trust that the Duggar family is accurately representing Santorum and doing a fine job in his absence?
