Every since Paula Deen admitted she has type 2 diabetes people just won't leave her alone.
First they bashed her for not telling anyone she had the disease for 2 years. My answer to that is why should she. It is her business and choice weather she wants to tel people or not. Then they bashed her timing saying she only came out with the news because she was endorsing the drug she is taking. OK, so what. If she wants to cash in on the crappy disease then why the heck not?
Then they criticized the food she has been making for years. Hello she has been making that food for years. She probably was not diabetic when she started, and she kept on doing what she was famous for. I didn't see her holding a gun up to anyone's head forcing them to put more butter on their food. Did her diet contribute to her diabetes, It is a strong possibility but we all know the risks when we do things and she took her risks just as most of us do.
Now she is being bashed because she got caught eating a hamburger in pubic. Are these people kidding. I diabetic person can eat a hamburger. A hamburger is actually a pretty balanced thing to eat, you have some carbs in the bun of course but the hamburger patty has protein in it which is good for diabetics. Ten you add vegetables, probably the worse thing that could go on it is mayonaise and all though that is fattening that is not the kind of fat that is going to raise blood sugar. Come on people, being a diabetic does not mean starving yourself to death. If she was chasing that burger down with a milk shake I could see the problem.
Being diabetic stinks, there is no doubt about that. Those of us who are diabetic don't need to be held under a microscope with other people judging us and watching our every move. Most of us are careful about what we eat, but that does not mean we can't splurge once in a while or that we can never eat anything bad, it just means we have to be more careful about it.
Do some people with diabetes abuse their bodies and do things that will put them in danger certainly, but that is their choice.

Then there is the issue of her business. Last time I checked anyone who puts themselves out as a public personality has people curious about their lives. If I remember you can live in another country and not have that problem though.
I personally don't feel betrayed by her at all. Like I said she never held up a gun to anyone's head. We all knew what she was cooking wasn't the healthiest of stuff. She never denied that. I don't see anything wrong with showing people how to make naughty foods. We all deserve a treat now and then. Of course anybody who was cooking her stuff day in and day out could be in trouble but they should really know that. Paula never claimed that her food was healthy.
My late great Aunt lived to 101 and she used butter when she cooked. But she said, all things in moderation. Her sister, my Grandmother died at age 56, she had a heart condition and had a stroke. Go figure, they were brought up in the same household.
I think they should leave Paula Deen alone. She was showing people how to cook tasty meals. Any fool would know that eating that way all the time was not healthy. So she wound up with type 2 diabetes. So did my Dad and he ate low fat for the 35 years before he became a insulin dependent diabetic. He was not overweight either... it was in his family.
My mother was very heavy her whole life and never got diabetes.
Genetics play a big part in that disease.
With all the food education we have been exposed to in the last 40 years with the food pyramid and the millions of books and articles and tv shows about eating healthy... I don't see where Paula Deen show mislead anyone.
I always liked that Paula used real butter in her recipes instead of margarine or stuff with trans-fats.
You can't play both sides against the middle....
I didn't know she smoked though until I read her interview. That has got to be dangerous as well with her condition.
