Practice will improve it. My trick is to write poetry only when I am experiencing great emotion. Your emotions affect your poetry.

Geez, no, Kara, don't ever stop writing -- anything.

I regularly tell everyone that I don't understand poetry, I don't like reading poetry, and I don't write poetry. But...

I've actually been lured into writing poetry several times for various prompts. Yep, it sucked. Nope, it didn't make any sense. But I did it.

You've got to hang in there and keep writing whatever it is you feel you need to do.

Please.
