Some of the players who had the chance to pick up a PlayStation Vita swear by it. However, the next gen handheld is still seeing slower sales than expected in Japan. It is even having trouble outselling the older Sony handheld it was supposed to replace, let alone the Nintendo 3DS.
The PS Vita, Sony's newest handheld, went from selling over 300,000 units in its Japanese debut week to selling 18,361 four weeks later. The Vita's older brother the PSP has sold 22,538. This is by no means a death omen for the Vita. But it should be a sign that the most anticipated Vita titles n
eed to come out so players will have a reason to buy the handheld in Japan.
The PS Vita will come out North America, Europe and Australia next month. Will that be the time Sony catches up to Nintendo? Well, there are some of American gamers out there who would buy an Etch-a-Sketch if it had a PlayStation logo on it.
