Fans want more Robert Pattinson in 2012, but what about Kristen Stewart? A new MTV poll has two movies competing to be named the most-anticipated movie of 2012, and one of the films facing off might surprise you.
It's really no surprise that The Hunger Games is competing for the title--it's been dubbed the next Twilight, and Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth are sure to become stars because of it. So since it is being compa
red to Twilight, shouldn't the final film in that franchise be facing off against it?
Shockingly it is not. Apparently film fans are hungry for Robert Pattinson without Kristen Stewart--instead of Breaking Dawn Part 2, his indie movie Cosmopolis is trying to take down The Hunger Games.
So this means that his little movie has to be more highly-anticipated than Kristen's much-buzzed-about Snow White and the Huntsman, fanboy favorite The Dark Knight Rises, and even Rob's other movie Bel Ami. It's truly amazing that MTV voters have helped a David Cronenberg-directed movie to make it so far in the bracket competition--after all, this is the director responsible for disturbing movies like Videodrome, Crash (not the one with Sandra Bullock), and Naked Lunch. And it's even more astounding when you consider the sheer number of movies that are coming out in 2012 (evidently filmmakers really do think that the world is going to end this year).
In Cosmopolis, Robert Pattinson plays a billionaire making an odyssey across Manhattan to get a haircut. Along the way he cheats on his wife, loses his fortune, and gets stalked. The whole movie takes place in the space of a day.
It's definitely something new for Rob, and it's extremely different than The Hunger Games, which currently has a slight edge over it in MTV's poll. It doesn't have a large, celebrity-stuffed cast like that movie, and it certainly doesn't have the same budget.
The MTV poll will close Monday, so it will certainly be interesting to see which movie ends up winning.
So can Rob's David take down 2012's Goliath? Or are you more interested in seeing Kristen Stewart's Snow White and the Huntsman over Cosmopolis? Sound off in the comments!
