NCIS season 9 has a big milestone episode coming up for the show: episode 200. It's going to be a bit of a "what if?" episode, showing how things could be different for these characters. Part of that will be some familiar faces returning from the dead.
Season 9 "Life Before His Eyes" spoilers
According to TV Guide, among the returning characters are Shannon and Kelly Gibbs. In fact, they're going to be joining him in a diner, and Shannon will point out, "If we hadn't died, you never would have become an agent," and she's going to point out everyone who's alive because of who he is today. As true as that is, it sounds like this Shannon and Kelly scene could possibly be more heartbreaking than the others have been. Gibbs has saved so many over the years, and there's a reason Gibbs is, well, Gibbs. That pretty much says it all, but at the same time, you can't help but wish there was a way for him to be the man he is today as a special agent and to have Shannon and Kelly in his life. No woman is ever going to be what Shannon was for him, and Diane pointed out just that when she reappeared in his life in this season's "Devil's Triangle."
Meanwhile, life is different for McGee, as Murray has revealed, "The episode is about, what if things had been done differently? What if Abby and McGee were married?" Now that's going to be good. The two were together years ago, and even though they didn't last, the feelings are obviously still there. While they want each other to be happy, there are also plenty of moments of jealousy that do shine through when one gets a potential love interest or just someone who's interested. So finally, fans will get a chance to see what it's like for them if they didn't break up. Fans of Abby and McGee's relationship should be happy with that, and just maybe, perhaps one day, the regular timeline will show something good for them as well.
Finally, there's the question of Tiva in this alternate world. Cote de Pablo has revealed that Ziva "never became an NCIS agent." Apparently, Ari (who is going to be back in this episode, interestingly enough) never killed Kate, so there was no reason for Ziva to join the team. Apparently he did see her seven years prior, though Cote de Pablo says when they next meet is what fans will see: "I've been running different missions all over Europe, and it's old Ziva — loud and in your face and sexual. It's a great scene, just between Michael and me, with the original tension all over again. So it poses the question: Is the attraction inevitable? And it kind of is." So, just because Ziva's not on the team doesn't mean there won't be something for Tiva fans in this episode. While some things are going to be quite different in this episode, other things just haven't changed and may just in fact be "inevitable." With Ari returning in this episode, it means there should be the chance for fans to see more of Ziva and Ari's interactions since that was short-lived the first time around, and you have to wonder just how much is different with him not killing Kate.
