New Girl continues with "Story of the 50," which celebrates Schmidt's birthday and shows just why he owes $50 to the douche jar, the most he's ever owed, which is surprising, given his history.
Planning a party for Schmidt
After losing his reservation for a party bus, Schmidt thinks he has to cancel his birthday, which he was planning to use to show up his "fremesis," Benjamin, from college. However, Jess decides to take it upon herself to throw him a party, despite Nick telling her Schmidt's world is very different from theirs.
Meanwhile, Nick's date with Julia is going well, but she does notice that he hasn't invited her over yet or told her much about himself. He does bring her home to meet the others, and this just so happens to be while Jess is ordering a stripper for Schmidt's party. Winston invites her to the party, which doesn't make Nick too happy with him. As Jess' plans for the party continue, she goes into the confiscation drawer at school and Tanya catches her, getting an invite to the party as well.
Schmidt's birthday on New Girl
Jess leads Schmidt out to the party bus decked out for him, and when Benjamin has him sing his birthday song, she's surprised at the lyrics about how he used to be fat. Nick tries to hide his less-than-polite past and behavior, but Julia tells him to just relax because she likes his friends. However, once on the bus, right after Schmidt tells Jess she did a good job, they find out they got a male stripper. Jess tries to get him to do something else for tips (he ends up singing).
The night's going well, as they stop before heading to the club, and Benjamin tells Schmidt he plans to hook up with Jess. Back on the bus, Schmidt talks business with the stripper, Nick is worried he blew it with Julia (though she convinces him otherwise), and Benjamin hits on Jess. Schmidt interrupts to get him to back off, and when Benjamin starts insulting the party, the guys all stand up to him. However, it's Julia who takes him down and leads to the bus crashing.
It turns out Julia has anger management issues and even attends court-ordered classes. She thinks he's freaked out, but he kisses her. Jess and Schmidt stay behind to wait for the tow truck, and he tells her he had fun. He leans in to kiss her, and she jumps away.
Schmidt tries to argue that she had something on her face, but he has to pay up.
