As most of you know, my daughter Angela is now 15. She actually hasn't asked me about going on a "date" yet, but I know it's coming. In the last few weeks, I have allowed her to go to a movie with a group of friends, both boys and girls, but I dropped her off and picked her up from the theater. (Oh, and I did sorta' hang around the area). She did not bring a date to her NJROTC Christmas Party, which I was fine with too.
Well, I got in to it with some dance moms (yes, I'm a lousy dance mom...lol) about our girls and dating. The moms were having a tizzy about a boy breaking one of the girl's heart by breaking up with her. The kids are in 6th grade. Yikes! One of the other moms lets her 5th grader go on dates with boys (which started in 4th grade). They think I'm so mean and old fashion for not letting my 9th grader date yet. I just don't think it's a great idea for that one-on-one relationship that young. Group activities are fine. And thank goodness Angela is busy enough that she really doesn't have much time for boys.
Now if my husband had his way, Angela wouldn't date until she was 30.
So, I want to hear what all of you think? How old were you when you went on your first real date? How young is too young to be dating? Am I being too old fashion about this? And how old is too old for a 15 yr old? Angela doesn't care for the boys her age, but I think juniors and seniors are TOO OLD for her (yes, I realize it's 2 - 3 yrs)....but at her age, that makes a big difference.
