Irina Shayk, the current cover model on the 2011 SI swimsuit issue, goes (nearly) topless for the UK Esquire. But she vows she will never do Playboy because she's got too much taste.
"I would never do Playboy," says Shayk. "Yes, I am a lingerie model, but I have class. Playboy offered me so much money last year. I was like: 'No. Way.'"
Irina Shayk is at the top of the lingerie model world, with regular entries in the Victoria's Secret catalog and covers for every fashion mag in the world. Not bad for a girl from Russia with a humble background.
So doing Playboy would normally be the jewel in the crown. What's the objection?
She'd have to be naked of course. SI Swimsuit issue fans will probably remember that Irina has a big problem with nudity.
In 2010 she was embroiled in a lawsuit with GQ over some nude pics they wanted to run in their Spanish edition. She claimed her underwear was airbrushed out of the photos. They claimed she was contracted to go naked.
Maybe it was her new boyfriend who had the real objections? Shortly before the controversy, Irina Shayk started a relationship with footballer Cristiano Ronaldo. It's possible that nudie pics are for his eyes only.
Too bad. Playboy loses out. But... Irina and Cristiano may not last forever and looks fade over time. Maybe she'll reconsider one day.
After all, Hef or no Hef, Playboy will go on forever... hopefully!
