Glee season 3 continues with episode 10, "Yes/No," on January 17, and that episode is going to feature Sam (Chord Overstreet) trying to win back Mercedes (Amber Riley). Included in that storyline is going to be a cover of "Summer Nights," and it's out.
Season 3 episode 10 "Yes/No" music: "Summer Nights"
The new song cover of Grease's "Summer Nights" (listen below) sounds like it should fit right in to the current storyline involving Sam and Mercedes—and should also do justice to the original version. From the pictures that have been released (such as the one to the right), it looks like this could be one of the favorite scenes of the episode for some fans, and there seems to be enough callback to the original version to make Grease fans happy. Both Chord Overstreet and Amber Riley sound good on the song, as do the rest of New Directions. It could easily be one of the best songs of the episode.
This song is certainly fitting for this Glee season 3 storyline. Mercedes has essentially said that what she and Sam had was a summer fling—the only onscreen scene for their relationship was them holding hands and talking about it being a secret in the season 2 finale—but he's determined to get her back after they ended things when he moved away. Now, they're part of the latest love triangle, and with Sam joining the synchronized swimming team to try to win her back (Danny joined track in Grease to do the same with Sandy), it sounds like this episode should have at least a couple of reminders of Grease.
