January 4, 2012. Des Moines. In the closest and most exciting primary election in recent history, Mitt Romney won the Iowa Caucus early this morning by the slimmest margin on record for a Republican primary or caucus. Capturing Iowa by just 8 votes over Rick Santorum, Romney had to wait until 2am to celebrate. Due to a missing precinct, the entire caucus came down to the results of one single ‘lost’ vote total.
