A Facebook hoax regarding Selena Gomez has been proven to be nothing more than a scam. A rumor about a 'leaked tape' that supposedly features scandalous footage of the Wizards of Waverly Place star and girlfriend of Justin Bieber has been circulating for a couple of days, but is determined to be a hoax.
According to a report from GMA Network, the scam claims that fans will lose all respect for Selena after viewing the purported footage. The scam leads viewers to a survey scam via a series of 'click-jacking' and 'like-jacking' components.
It seems that the scam involving Selena is one of those that encourages Facebook users to cut and paste the information (prior to delving deeper inside the actual page) and share it with other Facebook friends.
There hasn't been a comment yet from Selena Gomez or any of her reps about this ridiculous scam. And it won't be surprising in the least if there isn't one forthcoming. Fans of Selena Gomez know the kind of person this young woman is, and they most likely would have their antenna tuned to the notion of the scam when hearing such claims. Selena has a stellar reputation. The only thing fans (more likely the parents of these young fans) have questioned in recent months is her relationship with Justin Bieber. The two have stayed in lavish hotel suites together as they travel the world. But hey--she's 19 years old. If that's the worst thing she's doing, she still makes a pretty darn good role model for young impressionable kids.
So keep following Selena Gomez, but beware of any claims on Facebook about scandalous footage. The most scandalous thing Selena does is considered extremely mild by today's standards. Save your scandal footage for the likes of Lindsay Lohan or perhaps even Ke$ha.
