Newt Gingrich tears up over mother question:...

What is being called a Hillary moment" is Newt Gingrich crying when he recalls his mother. Did that help him or hinder him? It probably helped him in front of the crowd of conservative Republican Iowa mothers, but it probably hurt him as it did hurt Hillary in 2008 on a national level.

We need strength in leadership, and a guy who can't get passed his mother is not showing leadership. I saw the video, and I have to say it did not look sincere. Newt Gingrich did receive applause, but he will be ripped apart on the late night talk shows such as Jay Leno and David Letterman.

Quite honestly, I am ready to rip into him. You do not use your mother to gain you votes or support. It's just not done. I'm not saying there is not a time to cry publically. I remember Joe Biden crying when he talked about the death of his first wife. What is the difference? Biden's tears were believable. You watch the video of Newt Gingrich and see if you find his tears credible.

It may have helped him short term, however long term, I think it will hurt him....

That's what I think. I think he had momentary sympathy but using his mother's death is not a good political move.

It must be my cynical view of the world but I find the tears a little suspect. Since in the majority of interviews the questions are given to the candinate and his team ahead of time I look his tears more of a ploy than as real tears.

gee they were talking about brain and new way to find cure,, I think it is ok if someone want to find out the cure of brian disorders.. yet we dont look into that far,, I saw the "WHOLE" interview did you

I can't believe the reactions here. One or two think he is crying on cue for show. ave you ever tried to cry on cue? it's not that easy, take it from a theater arts major.

Then there are the others who think it makes him weak, let's be sure there is a fault attached to a sincere feeling of love and longing for the moat important person most people are influenced by in their life. Crying out loud, I don't care if you want to vote for the guy or not, what is the matter with you guys? Make up your mind, is he a blubbering weakling, or a cynical fraudster who really would stomp on his Mother, and just pretending he cares...??
OR when he was explaining the importance to him of finding cures to brain diseases is it just possible he had a normal human moment?

It's ok Joy, I just thought this was a touching moment, and looked sweet, not weak. To be overcome with genuine feelings for others doesn't seem weak to me.
