Patti Smith, Matt Lauer celebrate birthdays on December 30

Patti Smith will be celebrating her birthday on December 30. The musician is one of several celebrities who are acknowledging a birthday on Friday. Matt Lauer turns 54, television host Meredith Vieira is 58 and Sean Hannity is 50 all of which call December 30, their birthday too.

Patti Smith, a famous singer, was born on December 30, 1946 in Chicago. Spending most of her childhood in New Jersey, the artist became a musical sensation that decades later are known by teens everywhere. Hitting the music scene in 1974 in the Patti Smith Group, the artist shared 10 albums with music lovers with the latest being "Twelve" released in 2007. In 2011 the artist turned actress and portrayed a character on "Law and Order: Criminal Intent." Smith turns 65 on Friday.

Towards the end of the year, when there is less news and more focus on the holiday season of Christmas and New Year's Eve, sometimes the celebrity birthdays don't get as widely noticed. Since Patty Smith is such an important part of the music history she definitely isn't forgotten this year.
