OK Gather. What Would You Do?

What would y'all do in our situation?

Walker lost his wallet on Dec 12, and did the responsible thing, canceling all his cards. The next day mall security found the wallet and returned it. We both agreed that had he not canceled, someone else would have found the wallet and done fraudulent things with it.

The replacements started to trickle in, all but the important one from the bank.

The bank told us to call if nothing turned up by today. Nothing turned up, and after some debating, Walker called and asked them to exposure a new replacement card, for $12.

I don't mind saying there's a little tension between us right now, because he would have preceded to wait longer, whereas the financial bitch in me says it's been long enough! Walker thinks there's a good possibility that now that we've re-canceled the replacement, it'll appear, and I think that if we just let it lie, this problem will stretch out forever. Murphy's law kicked in when we lost the wallet, so why not now? But those who know the proverbial Murphy, know that he's psychic, and will screw us every time. 

So my question is this. What would YOU have done, past deadline?

A) Wait longer, even though it's been over 2 weeks

B) Do what I suggested, and what we did, and re-order an exposures new one?

It'll still get here after Walker gets paid because Canada takes a thousand days off in Dec and Han, but who's to say the old one didn't get lost along the way? 

An even bigger question is this. What if you ordered a new one and the old canceled card shows up useless the next day, and you're start waiting again? Would you take it out on the one who suggested it, or just get on with your life because acting angry will solve nothing?

I lost my wallet and canceled all my cards. some one found the wallet and returned it. I just let them send the replacement cards. Then had to deal with the places that charge my card for med and other thing monthly.

Yeah. Our Anerican telephone, and legal insurance are on that bloody card. The legal crap that goes on when we're insured is bad enough, so I'd hate to see what would happen if we let it lapse. Dang thing has paid for itself many times already.

It sounds scary awful, and a terrible hassle, and no matter what it's going to be just horrible dealing with the hassle and waiting and wondering. So just do whatever and try to roll with the punches and remember that from time to time THESE THINGS HAPPEN so try not to feel TOO bad at it all! Just be glad knowing someday this will all be behind you.

Ug. I thought I lost my wallet the other night, and wanted to cry just thinking about cancelling cards and all of that. Such a pain.
Not sure what I would have done. Probably waited a few more days, I guess, since it's Christmas season and mail might be slower than normal.

Do patiences and financial desperation ever mix? lol it would be nice if these people could deliver on their promises. If it's going to be longer than planned, they should make better plans.

I think my biggest problem is that if I don't do something, I have no proof that anything is going to get done.

Either way, the cards were not used and the most you are out is $12 for the bank re-issuing the card? I would say you did pretty well for losing a wallet in a public place! :)

Thank you. I know Walker's going to be pissed right off if he followed my suggestion, got the card re-issued, and the original comes, but hindsight is always 20/20, and who's to know NOW what may or may not happen next week?

Believe it or not, the day he lost the Walket, I had a bit of a psychic tingle, and told him to stay hone and take a nap. He went out and lost the wallet!! 99% of the time my instincts are right on. I suppose those odds have turned me into a bit *cough* of a control freak, but I've done pretty damn well in those shoes. I even got some long overdue, though very subtle credit from Dad, the head control freak, last week, about how I manage money. ;) Dad and I should get together and teach classes. Maybe we could call it charity work, and write it off on our taxes.

I would do what you did. Two weeks is long enough to wait for a card. When I cancelled my cards after I was robbed my second bank never sent the card I requested. When I called them back two weeks later they told me no card had been sent then they charged me 5 dollars to send a new one which I never got!

Oh that sucks, that they did that!!! Walker's bank informed us that it was sent, but it's sure as he'll not showing up at it's destination.

I just got off the phone with one of my best buddies, and he gave me a great big oat on the back for talking Walker into getting it re-issued.

I'm sure you've done the right thing. After two weeks you don't know where that card has been, and if someone has activated it yet. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Replaced it. The wait is more than worth it than having a bunch of fraudulent charges, and the headache paperwork that goes with them

I would have done what you did. Besides all anyone needs are the #'s from your cards. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Something like this happened to me this week. I left my debit card at one of the stores I went to on Monday. I didn't discover it missing until after the store closed. I called the bank's toll free number and put a lock on it. I also asked for a new card which will cost me five dollars. Meanwhile i don't have many checks so I can't buy much until the new card comes in about eight more days.

I think I did the right thing. I did get my debit card back, but it's been cancelled, so i have to wait.

Things worked out well for me and for your husband. Thank the lord. But do not be too hard on him. I went a little crazy Monday night wondering if I would have any money in my bank account on Tusday. This kind of thing does not happen too often - again thank heaven, but when it happens to someone else, we tend to think we could have handled it better.

If I had Monday to do over again, I would still cancel the old card and order a new one. I am glad the mishap only cost me five dollars.

Being that this is a busy time of the year for the postal service I would have given it a few more days but not many more. I am not very patient when it comes to waiting for anything.

Looks like you got autocorrected a few times, and I probably will to. I think you did everything right. I have waited in the past and had both outcomes occur but nothing to give more than a passing thought to.

I'm glad that it was returned to him and he did the smart thing of canceling his cards. And I know it's a pain trying to get everything back to normal too.

Had this happened before. I too cancelled cards. Wasn't taking any chances. Yeah the wait, and fees are annoying, but the peace of mind knowing someone didn't create fraudelent charges, was well worth it. That would have been harder to deal with. I did get my wallet back minus the mere $10 that was in it. All cards where there, which lead me to beleive kids found it, told thier parent or parents, but not till after they took the money.

Stephen Colbert would probably say trust your gut. I'll agree with him in this case. Re-ordering was probably the right idea. You never know what could come up.

identify thief is a huge factor in this re ordering was the right thing to do now someone else can't pretend they are you husband and get into your accounts.

I have had that happen to me before. I had canceled a card and had them send me a replacement. And it does take a long time. Then when I didn't get it fast enough, I canceled the card completely. Then I went to another bank and got a new account. Then I would get the card in the mail. Thats when I broke it and threw it away.
