As Kate Middleton settles into her new role in the royal family for the holidays, her grandfather-in-law, Prince Philip, was rushed to the hospital Friday evening after experiencing heart pains. The 90-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II was taken from Sandringham in Norfolk to Papworth Hospital in Cambridge. It definitely dampens the holiday spirit as the Windsors may potentially halt their much hyped about Christmas festivities.
A guest list of about 27 royals were invited to Sandringham to celebrate Christmas. Prince Philip arrived on Monday to begin the week. This year's gathering is so large, several of the relatives had to stay in servants' quarters.
Prince Philip has always been a strong figure at the Queen's side. Despite his age, he's active in a multitude of royal functions and charities. His condition is unknown at this point, but he was taken to the cardiac unit to undergo "precautionary tests," a Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said.
