Narrow-Mindedness

There is here on Gather a person who has a group with only 1 member, themselves...! They will not allow anyone to jooin the group, make commnets upon postings, etc. They recently posted an inflammatory piece, a diatribe if you will, about breast-feeding in public. In most of the wolrd it is a normal aprt of life to breast-feed ababy in public. In Westren nation sit is customary to cover the breatss so they are not exposed. There is nothing sexually evocative or provacative about this procedure yet this person has gone out of their eway to make it seem to be something disgusting and unnatural.

Why is htis day & age doe sanyone find this act to be so abnormal & disgusting?

Good question. You'll be happy to know that I got an A+ on the paper I wrote in 1998 about breastfeeding in public.

The person who posted the article in question on Gather is sorely in need of an education on the matter!!

I find that type of bigotry absolutely abhorrent. All of my kids were breast fed...that's how nature designed it. In Ontario, a woman does not have to wear a top, period. The Supreme court ruled that it was discriminatory that men can go topless and women can't. That would definitely make breast feeding much more convenient here.

Society has us all brain washed that the female breast is for sexual purposes only. It's the "quick fix" mentality we have now. Buy a bottle, buy some formula and let someone raise your kid. Responsibility has flown out the window.
The poster you mention is sorely ignorant about nature, nutrition and life itself. People who just post to stir the pot, or to belittle others, have no life and are sorely in need of attention. I guess Gather is cheaper than paying a therapist, and by hiding behind a "no comment" rule, they don't have to face the music, so to speak. They can say what they want and, again, do not have to be responsible for their own comments/views/opinions.
I don't allow people like that to get into my head. I refuse to be involved in Internet wars and/or controversy. I say what I feel, and so be it. I mean, what can they do? Type me to death?? LOL! You do raise good points; but it all goes back to manners and consideration. These people are just miserable and can't be happy unless they are slamming others. I find this very sad.

They breast fed their babies on buses when I was a child. There was nothing wrong with it. The woman would discreetly cover up while the baby fed.

I have no idea, Donald. I breast fed in public, a couple of times, but I walked all the way to the back of an area, almost in the dark, I didn't do it right in front of everyone. I felt too bare to do that. Either I went into the bathroom and sat in a stall OR I went into a dark corner of the food court at the mall, OR I went into an area of the mall that had no people OR a part of a shopping outlet that had few people in it. I once sat next to an Indian woman who bared her whole breast and some children passed by with their parents and their eyes popped out of their head! I would never do that. I did it but no one could really tell I was doing it. I once saw a woman doing it on a bus, a crowded bus. I thought she had balls to do that. Very brave. No one was paying attention though.

The bathroom? That's one of the points I brought out in my paper. I'd never eat in a bathroom, so I'd never feed a child in there either.
