I submitted this to Associted Content (Yahoo Voices) last week and it still isn't published and the next show will be on soon so I wanted to get this published somewhere before the next show so I am posting it here for now once they pubish it on the other site I will delete it here. I worked to hard on this not to get any reads on it.
The evening started out with Marcus Canty who is getting the reputation as the last chance song champion because he landed in the bottom 3 three times and each time managed to save himself, actually last week he was saved by America as he was the one who received the most votes between himself and Rachel Crow. Marcus came out singing I'll Make Love to You, by Boys to Men.
I had no problems with the performance what so ever in my opinion it was a solid performance and he made some girl in the audience melt when he gave her a rose. Simon thought it was tacky, I thought it was cute, Simon also didn't like the dancers, but don't think that is Marcus's fault. Paula thought he was solid, Nicole thought he was a classy gentleman, and L.A Reid said he couldn't be more proud.
Chris Rene was the next person to perform he sang fly by, Sugar Ray. To be honest I had trouble hearing him for the first few bars the background noise was kind of drowning him out. Once I could hear him I thought he was pretty much on key and I liked how he was performing. When he was finished the audience was shouting his name. It is very clear that people really like Chris Rene. I have to admit I like him too. I don't think that he is as good as the other three remaining contestants though. All of the judges except Simon seemed to say nice things about him as a person but not that much about the performance. Simon said he liked the performance but was not all that fond of the singing.
Melanie Amaro was the third singer. Melanie sang Hero by, Mariah Carey. My initial thought was if anyone can carry this one off it is Melanie and true to form she did carry off and sounded great, but she took some liberties with the ends of phrases I did not like all that much and she did not seem to have the passion I have sseen her have in the past and that, that song deserves. Not my favorite Melanie Amaro performance, but still solid. I still believe she has a great chance at winning. L.A. Reid seemed to hear the same thing that I did he did not feel the passion either. Nicole though the song was a perfect fit, Paula said her voice is amazing, and Simon said it was Bloody Fantastic and it was not Karaoke.
Josh Krajcik was the last two perform and he sang: Come Together by The Beatles. I really liked the performance myself, there was a couple of times I thought he could have powered it out more but didn't but over all I really liked it. I love how he takes the stage and performs. All of the judges liked the performance and Simon said he would be shocked if he did not see him the finals. Paula wants to see him live, and L.A. thought it was the best of his most recent performances. Nicole is in awe of him.
Round 2 was the judge's choice round the judges picked the songs the contestants sang.
Marcus came out singing Careless Whisper by, George Michael which is a brilliant song. I think Marcus did pretty good, but something was missing. I actually heard a guy sing this at Karaoke bar once and he was amazing actually sorry say better than Marcus, but I don't think it was a bad performance by any means, just tiny bit lack luster. Nicole and L.A. said he is already a champion, Simon did not like the whole performance and by that he didn't really mean insult Marcus he just thought all the stuff in the background was tacky like a tacky Las Vegas show he thought Marcus deserved better then what he was given to work with.
Chris did No Way by, Alicia Keys. I thought it was kind of a strange song choice for him. He started out playing the piano and singing and I kind of liked that. I could actually hear him sing and since he was not jumping around like crazy he stayed in key then he stood up and started rapping and dancing. The rapping and dancing were fun and all but once he started singing again it got kind of shaky. I still like watching him though. His mentor L.A. said he was proud. Simon said his dad would be proud, Paula thought it would get him in to the finals, and Nicole said that even though he does not have the best voice but he will do fine because he is himself.
Melanie then came on the stage and sang Feeling Good by, Nina Simone. Girl must have been feeling good because that was an amazing performance. She was powerful, she was passionate she showed she can hit the low notes just as powerfully as she can hit the high ones. A Perfect performance in every way. Not surprisingly all of the judges loved it. I don't need to repeat all of the praise I will just say it was the highest praise anyone could possibly get on a singing competition show.
Josh finished the night off by singing Hallelujah. I have heard this song sung on these types of shows many more times than I care to count and I have seen it done well and I have seen it done not so well but I have to say Josh did it justice. It was an amazing and moving performance. I hung on every word and I felt it, I truly felt it. I was completely shocked when L.A. said that it lacked excitement and passion. I screamed at the TV, "What the heck were you wathcing!!!" I thought the performance was very passionate Josh's veins were popping out of his forehead for goodness sakes. Paula gave L.A. a well deserved tongue lashing saying that he is one of the most passionate performers there could be. Simon agreed with Paula and said Josh should be in the finals. Nicole said it was a beautiful prayer and the he was a gift. Both Paula and Nicole were of course crying.
So that is the Recap of the X-Factor December 14th performance re-cap show. I am pretty confident that both Josh and Melanie will make it to the final. The question is who will go on between Chris Rene and Marcus Canty. Marcus has a great voice and is a great performer while Chris is original, likable, and entertaining. Should be interesting to see what happens tonight. (December 15th)
