Miley Cyrus a Role Model? Yeah Right!

Bryce Westervelt, You've painted a picture of Miley Cyrus in the worse possible way. You want squeeky clean role models, you have them in Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez who are known for their eagerness to please. Miley Cyrus approach is refreshing and relatable with most teens who see her as someone who can understand their own struggles. Miley worked hard to land the role of Hannah Montana not only rising to the expectations but surpassed them making Disney a fortune. Her talent goes beyond sitcom acting. She sings and performs live with confidence and ability beyond her years. I would stand to agree with Miley Cyrus that she is a better role model than you give her credit for.

Mr. Westervelt, True. Miley did make a joke but it was directed at herself and only someone looking to accuse her of condoning drugs can stretch it into an endorsement. The only thing Miley Cyrus has in common with Lindsay Lohan is they both worked for Disney. Lindsay is a good actress but got off track. Miley Cyrus has managed her affairs in and out of Hollywood with only a few bumps along the way of a very successful career that shows no sign of sputtering out. I suppose you believe others auditioning for Hannah Montana might have been better cast for the lead... Billy Ray Cyrus notwithstanding, Miley carried most of the weight that made HM the success it became. Her comedic timing and her amazing singing ability didn't go unnoticed either. I guess you can fault Miley for having a birthday prior to a TV appearance. You can also credit this 19 year old for bringing down the house with her powerful performance of The Climb on CNN. Miley Cyrus was amazing. You might wish to watch her singing just to understand why her fans think so highly of her. Just saying.

just shows how smart you are bryce; i'm sorry but i couldn't help but notice in this article u forgot to mention the numerous donations miley's done or her trips to haiti; or the fact that she's always trying to get her fans involved with charity events like herself. she gets in a few trouble and she's the worst person in the world but honey it's called being a human being. nd i do feel sorry for ppl like u who apperently worship the likes of selena gomez people like her who cling to fame by hooking up with powerful people in the social life. miley got to where she is because she worked hard and earned her spot without needing to hump anyone. she's a role model because she's nice and though she always gives back to those in need and always stays positive even when assholes like u try to bring her down!!!

Again.... look at the timing.... She jokes about smoking pot one week before a big humanitarian award show on CNN..... So which is it..... the good Miley or the bad Miley? One can't constantly act like a spoiled brat then do a bunch of nice things to try to get people to forget about the bad stuff. By the way, Miley got her audition for Disney because of her father's fame...and then the "Disney handlers" kicked him to the curb.

Miley is a better role model than you think. that weed thing on her birthday was a frigging joke. i didn't see you say sh*t when Demi Lovato wore a similar dress a month ago with LOT of cleavage showing on the red carpet. but since it's miley it's a problem lady gaga, rihanna ect.. wear less than that everyday. but you don't say nothing about that either. Miley is not little miss hannah montana perfect girl anymore she's 19 not 13. teens younger than her are doing meth, drugs, being 14 and pregnant and you're calling her a bad person for being herself. Amaricans! she do a lot of charity work she fight for Gay rights, went to haiti TWICE, give tickets sales to charity, but all your fat ass do is sit behind a computer like a coward and say that she's a bad person. i rather call her my role model any-day than some fake celebs that only act perfect for the cameras and say they are perfect cause nobody's perfect. people make mistakes that's just life. the difference is that everything miley does there are 100x of paparazzi waiting to publish it to the world

Miley Cyrus is a role model. so she had made a few mistakes but she also admits when she has done wrong, she is just a normal teenager, so she isn't going to be perfect, no teenager is. She has accomplished so many things in her career so stop trying to take that away from her.
she has done more good then bad, she is just being herself to the world thats a bad thing.

Everyone always refers to her as the Hannah Montana girl, she is growing up and people look at that as breaking the law.

she is a good role model in lots of different ways. just because she has made a few mistakes doesnt make her a bad role model, makes her a better person for admitting has had made thoughs mistakes and not sitting behind a computer talking crap about everyone else!

No according to me...if someone should call themselves a role model..they should live to a high-moral standard. Joking about illegal drug use when one knows that they have millions of pre-teen girls as fans is irresponsible and not a "role model" in my book. She lives a life of "do as I say and ignore what I do"

Tell me mila... would you want your 12-year-old daughter smoking bongs, drinking beer and posting it on Twitter, joking about getting high all the time.... because Miley Cyrus said it was "cool" and that she was a "role model"????

This is not to mention the scandalous, highly-sexed clothes that she wears onstage a teenager.... and the myriad of "wardrobe malfunctions" that she has had. Her handlers have turned her into a "sex symbol" Is that how young teenage girls should look at themselves? The only way to make it is to sell your body??? Some role model!

Whether you like it or not, people have the right to wear whatever they want. Skin-baring is not abnormal or wrong. At 19, Miley Cyrus is old enough to make her own decisions about clothing. It is not a crime for a woman to show her legs, stomach, back, or cleavage. This isn't the middle east and it isn't the puritan era anymore.

There are always people like you who will buy into the old-fashioned myths about women. People who assume that if a woman shows any skin below her collar bone or more than 2 inches above her knee, it must mean she's selling her body, has no self- respect, is promiscuous, or has no morals. People who think like that are narrow-minded prudes stuck in religion or in another century.

And about your first reply: If I had a 12 year old who did all those things it would be mostly my fault AS A PARENT for not supervising her and providing her with enough love, guidance, and discipline. It would also be her own fault for doing those things. It is not reasonable or wise to hold a 19 year old pop star responsible for the behavior of children. Not everything a 19 year old says, does, and wears is going to be appropriate for children to imitate. That's life.

I can't believe what I am reading. You are an adult, how can you sit there and write that an 19 year old teenager is a brat? You don't even know her personally. I think Miley is an amazing rolemodel, because she is relateable and she got a big heart! Remember: Miley is a rolemodel for the kids, not for the parents:) Other kids, including me doesn't give a crap about what she does in her spare time, then I don't think you should either.
