At noon CBS (local) was showing Ron Paul still in 3rd place. The guy does make some good points. I don't like his views on womens rights, however. I don't like the republicans stance that their religious ideas can be mandated. That is just wrong!!
He's a libertarian...which means he advocates dismantiling any safety net. But he is dead-set against foreign wars. On the whole, he is a lot more palatable than Gingrich or Romney, but I still wouldn't vote for him.
Seriously, war is to be avoided, but the US had a role to play in the world that if we did not play it the world would be a worse off place ... hard to imagine that.
Maybe a moratorium on US overseas engagement until we figure out how to do it for the sake of cleaning up the world and bringing order instead of just institutionally weaving the military-industrial complex into every aspect of our lives - which is what I think the problem is.
We will end up in some kind of conflict with Iran (I believe) but if we do not do it wisely we will just be left with an even worse sore thumb in the area, Saudi Arabia, 100x worse than Iran in reality. The US does not have any coherent foreign policy except to consolidate all economic production into a big military hierarchy for its own sake and that is toxicly wrong.
I know Jim, but I think you folks who are of the Ron Paul foreign policy school have no reality to compare with, so it looks good. When you see the power vacuum of a US isolationism filled with adventurism and war on the part of other countries I think you will have to change your mind ... but by then it will be extremely expensive to start up again, and most likely too late. We should be very careful about giving up the military advantage that we have ... right now it is the ONLY thing that the US has going for it.
PJS I think so too. I think too many people are too quick to dismiss him...the media and the GOP dont like him but he has the support of a lot of the people.
I still think all the "flavors of the month" will eventually self-destruct, and Romney will get the nomination as the last of the Republican dwarfs still standing.
Remember that with Truman the polling was wrong. In 1948, most of the people who had phones were Republicans. The pollsters called people and no surprise, the people they called said they would vote Republican. But the Democrat Harry Truman predicted he would win.

Aside from his fringe popularity, Ron Paul should not be electable. He is so far outside of anything this country would benefit from or stands for I will never understand the cult of Ron Paul. Libertarianism is a disguised prelude to aristocratic tyranny - worse than we now have, and that we would never recover from.
Why are all the republican candidates sociopaths? Did you know that since capitalism is a social arrangement and therefore socialism? Gingrich smoked marijuana but if anybody else does they should be in prison according to him. Ron Paul is the closest they have to a real Republican, the rest of them are all for the ZioNazis; which means elitist monetary system monopolizing war profiteering spawn in case you didn't know. Yeah and social security being a ponzi scheme is something tea banger republican voters would believe until they don't get their check in the mail anymore, duh.

His foreign policy position is the ONLY thing that I agree with, Joseph. Get our "Empire" ass out of where it never belonged. Other than that, his Libertarian agenda is as crazy as Ayn Rand envisioned: Every man for himself. Screw you, I've got mine.....
The world is so screwed up, and technology moving so fast that it needs a policeman, and as the largest economy and most fair of the superpowers the US is the one to do it. The best I think we can hope for is to streamline our military actions, take the profit out of it, democratize it, and make it actually work for the common people. It is so absurd that we go to Iraq and in that country the money from the oil revenues is being shared throughout the country to get everyone to buy into this new democratic ideal, whereas in the US we are doing the exact opposite - our country is broken, sick and not going to survive without major corrective actions.
No one has been voted off of the island yet! We are a log way from August 2012! Ron Paul has no message I can embrace, none, nothing! He is a player in a party which means the American public no good what so ever!
