Old Fashioned Holiday Fruitcake

When I was a little kid I hated this kind of cake, of course it had booze in it so that made it yucky to me!
I grew up to think it's still not my favorite but it's not Christmas without Grandma's Fruitcake~

When a fruitcake is well made it's a delight. When it's from stale store bought ingredients, it's a doorstop!

There is a fruitcake that is traditionally given in the South as a gift and it is definitely a door stop....I could never imagine anyone spending money to buy and send it, yet every year we would get several from clients of my husband's business....

I love a good fruit cake but certainly not that dry stuff found commercially...

That's a fairly unusual fruitcake in UK terms, but looks great!

I make all my Christmas (fruitcakes) cakes, Christmas puddings and black bun on Stir Up Sunday - and then just keep 'feeding' them alcohol until Christmas/New Year!

This is just like my Great Aunt Jeans fruitcake. More fruit than cake and aged with booze! It's quite expensive to make these, but well worth the cost.

This looks very different than the fruit cakes I've tried. I don't usually like fruit cake, but this one might be an exception. Thanks for posting to Cook it up Big!

I know what you mean Jan I even hated the smell of it... but you cant eat much its so rich.
