Thousands of fans will be rejoicing as Bejeweled and Bejeweled Blitz come to the iPhone and iPod. The games launch in the new format worldwide today.
PopCap Games, which is the leading casual gaming company, will be selling the original game app inexpensively, and the 60-second Blitz will be entirely free. And that is great news for anyone who expects to stand in line or waiting on the phone for 60 seconds or more. You'll have time to play a fast and exciting game on your iPhone or your iPod!
In an article at MarketWatch, Giordano Bruno Contestabile, franchise director, pointed out that "with nearly 40 million mobile units sold over the past eight years, Bejeweled is the second best-selling mobile game of all time, behind only Tetris." He stated that PopCap intends to reach "virtually everyone with a mobile communications device. "
In the new Bejeweled for iPod and iPhone, there are enhanced graphics, achievement badges, user profiles, leaderboards, and all the things you would expect. There are even three modes of play, including a Zen mode with ambient music and six mantras!
Bejeweled Blitz, which PopCap refers to as a "freemium," seems as though it will be basically be the same as the version many people play on Facebook. In fact, it will offer full Facebook integration. (It appears that "freemium" simply means it is free.)
PopCap Games are so popular for a reason. They offer quality, fun, quick, easy to learn games, and adding them to mobile platforms was a logical next step. After all, why would people want to stare into space in the grocery line or waiting for an appointment when they could be earning gems?
