Frankly, I think this is nit-picking. The attack on Pearl Harbor shouldn't have happened. It occurred because of our arrogance. On May of the same year, General George C. Marshall sent a report to President Roosevelt on the impregnability of Hawaii. With a succession of provocations, The Trade Embargo, and finally The oil embargo. Our strategic oil reserve would keep us running for several weeks. We had our own domestic sources. Japan counted their's in days. After setting an example in China with the western nations dismembering The country into "concessions," how do we expect them to follow our Christian "morality?" Japan was a country impoverished of natural resources. True, we didn't carve out our portions of China, but "The Open Door" Policy assured us a share. Why were we caught unprepared? Japan was a "second rate" Asiatic power. Surely, they wouldn't dare challenge us?

Actually, as an Italian American, I did find the treatment of the Japanese appalling, but my father explained to me that people like Carol have a sense of justice when someone bombs innocent people in our country, we take offense. (Bowing) I bow to your sense of justice such as it is.

It is supposed to be a day of remembrance, and he chooses to celebrate their deaths deliberately choosing the food we would all be eating if they won the war? Wow. Carol, I look at it this way. It never was the man on the street that was at war with us. Just the leaders. And the people had to pay a terrible price in lives. I'm more than happy to to forget what their leaders did and love them. If you think it out you'll probably feel the same way.

Factually, much of Pearl Harbor could have been prevented from a military standpoint if anybody in America had the remotest idea of what they where supposed to be doing in 1941. Unlike the events of 911, America knew Japan was on the march. The Admiral in charge was basically derelict in his duties. You don't have to go to the supreme challenge of actually reading a book. Several well made television programs reference this. Try to watch them all the way through and understand we were bombed through our own stupidity. It doesn't make the loss of life any less, but it should get you to think about innocent versus victim of our own stupidity.

So despite the headline, no evidence is offered that Sasha and Malia Obama ate the Teriyaki Marinated Chicken Strips or the Garlic Roasted Edamame. Not that they would have done anything wrong if they had, but I think the dishonesty in the headline is important.

What's next, complaints that people dared to drive Toyotas and Hondas in public? Insistence that people not watch the ceremony at Pearl Harbor on Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, etc. TVs and computers?

This is a non-story, and I think if people are worried about dishonoring the memories of the thousands who were killed, they might consider that complaining about something like this and using it as an attempt (a very sad, pathetic, and weak attempt) to score some kind of cheap political point could be viewed as exactly that.

Pearl Harbor Day is about remembering the events of that day, and honoring those who died. That doesn't require expressing anger or hatred at the nation or people of Japan, boycotting Japanese-style menu items, or in any way celebrating or perpetuating the anti-Japanese bigotry that was far too common during and after the war.

I've always thought a better word for remembering anniversaries like the Pearl Harbor attack is "observe" rather than "celebrate";I had to correct my nephew today when he told someone "Happy Pearl Harbor Day"! It could be that like a lot of other people,the school administrators treated December 7th just like any other day. Yes,it would be tastless if this were a deliberate act.
