No, it's not a joke. I couldn't believe it. Obama sends his children to a school that feeds kids Japanese cuisine on the day the rest of the country mourns the attack on Pearl Harbor.
I know we are friendly with Japan, but I have enough anger to not enjoy a Japanese cuisine on the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. The President should check out this school and read this article for himself. It's just in very bad taste.

By the way, have the Japanese ever apologized to us??? No sushi for me.
And I guess the Japanese should boycott McDonald's the day we blew up Hiroshima, and the Germans shouldn't send us any BMWs' on the day we bombed Dresden.

Yep
You are batting 1,000
Other than Thanksgiving and birthdays most people dont plan their menus around things like Pearl Harbor day.
Just those desperately searching for something to get offended about.
Do you eat Chinese? Better stop or you will turn into a communist. Does that make any sense? Nope and neither does yours and Carols and all the other dumbazz people that are "offended" by something this lame and trivial.

I'm sure the President is too busy golfing to care what his kids eat on Pearl Harbor Day. Ask the families of the men who roasted on December 7, 1944 what they think of your generosity."
You don't even know the date you're talking about, Carol. Don't you look like an absolute twit.
Especially when we expect the Blacks to forgive us for the long period of slavery and many, many of them have.
What's next, complaints that people dared to drive Toyotas and Hondas in public? Insistence that people not watch the ceremony at Pearl Harbor on Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, etc. TVs and computers?
This is a non-story, and I think if people are worried about dishonoring the memories of the thousands who were killed, they might consider that complaining about something like this and using it as an attempt (a very sad, pathetic, and weak attempt) to score some kind of cheap political point could be viewed as exactly that.
Pearl Harbor Day is about remembering the events of that day, and honoring those who died. That doesn't require expressing anger or hatred at the nation or people of Japan, boycotting Japanese-style menu items, or in any way celebrating or perpetuating the anti-Japanese bigotry that was far too common during and after the war.
What is wrong with my nationality?
Parking those planes so close together in 1941 violated every known security measure—not a conspiracy theory but a hard, unpleasant fact. Kimmel violated procedure, he made a mistake and his men paid for it. I have never talked America down as a vet, but when we screw up I choose not use magical thinking and turn it into some crazy victimology that begets the bigotry Wil is talking about. Of course it is America, and a lot of men and women served and died so you can have whatever opinion you'd like to have. And bray it as loudly as you'd like.
Hindsight is always 20/20.
Don't be sorry. I'm very happy here.
get a grip,, yes we morn, and yes we remember,, yet life will go on,, my father who was in that war and an uncle in it , they would let this day live on as a history moment and let liffe live on
I ate Japanese food last night for dinner. Made Uni last night for dinner. (real Asian food not what is served in schools or half the buffets in US), tonight we are having Kimichi.
Carol said that Japanese people should apologize. Excuse me? What the hell do I have to apologize for? I wasn't even born during that time, but I did have family members who were put into camps after the bombing because of their nationality. (and then people wonder why quite a few family members moved back to Japan afterwards..if you even knew the terror those camps were, the beatings of women and children, rape, killings kept secret)...
Stop condemning a whole group of people because of a horror that happened years ago.
Will defin. be UNfriending Carol for her racist remarks on here. Embarrassed to have befriended her the last couple years now.
It's one of the most profoundly stupid and racist things I've seen on Gather, ever.
I'd say I'm astounded, but I'm not: this is teabaggery at its lowest. And it will get much worse, before it gets better.
Go occupy something.
Do you think the American people should apologize to the blacks for slavery? I do. When a wrong is committed, one should apologize. I was just in Italy, and the cab driver wanted me to apologize for fighting in Italy during WWII. I told him I wasn't sorry.
If we are to forgive, then we must receive an apology. Nellie didn't do it, but the Japanese government did.
That's mighty white of you, Carol.
In your way of thought, then have you apologized to American Indians, Asian Americans, German Americans, Jews (because US didn't get involved as fast as they should have and 1000's of Jews were murdered before US got involved), African Americans and list could go on.
Because since you were a teacher, you should know that in history, whites used Asian people as slaves ( indentured servitude) to build train tracks as an example...and I can go on and on.
Plus your remark pertaining to radiated sushi, what a cruel thing to say. I lost friends during that time, and couldn't find family members for awhile (part of the reason I went back to Japan)
When you apologize to all races for the cruelity your "white" (as you deem others to do so, you should also)
then return back to this post and tell us. And I don't mean one person over the internet, but go their face and tell them you are sorry that you let your government during those days murder, rape, sodomize and terrorize.
Shame on you.
You are suppose to be such a high educational teacher of even college age, is this what you taught your students?
