President Obama gave an insipid oration on the topic of tax cuts for the employed that perhaps should rightly be the work of Republicans. It is good to have low or no taxes of course yet government costs and it is a proper task of  government to prevent the monopolization of economic social reality by dominating strong goons and networks of control.

People that wish an ordinary economic freedom, liberty to choose from several work possibilities and a healthy ecosphere won't get that by accident; it will take public will and government support for change-items President Obama isn't too interested in evidently.

In December 2010 the President might have let Bush era tax cuts expire and then in 2011 he could have given a few back to Republicans in return for concessions of economic worth to the poor and unemployed as well as ecospheric recovery. Instead the President is making speeches pleading for a 2% payroll tax cut in Kansas.
The Democrats seem to be philosophically lost.
