Do You Remember Your Childhood Christmas Tree?

Do you remember your Christmas tree as you were growing up? What made it special in your eyes? We didn't have a lot of money when we were kids, but that certainly didn't take away from my memories. I think that our tree was always beautiful. We had red and green garland made of strands of twisted crepe paper, an assortment of glass ornaments, but my favorite part of the tree was the gobs and gobs of tinsel that covered every branch. Yes, my favorite part of the tree, was the tinsel and to this day, I carry on that tradition. When our tree is finished, it looks as if it was covered in ice. Yes, that was just how much tinsel mom put on the tree and it was breath taking.

When I was in school we would make ornaments with our school picture for the tree as a present. Year after year we would put those picture ornaments on the tree. That is what I remember.

Yes, my mother bought homemade or unusual ornaments at bazaars. I particularly liked the clothespins horses.

I remember certain aspects of it and certain ornaments that we had as a child. I also remember the star on the top of the tree and that my mom also put tinsel on the tree and garland. The homemade ornaments always fascinated me, my mom no longer has those which makes me kind of sad and makes me wonder what she did with them. I also remember one year my dad going outside to plug the lights in, for some reason he thought he could go out there with barefeet in the snow. He came in the house dancing around and I remember I thought it was the most hilarious thing I had ever seen.

My grandmother always put something called 'angel hair' on our tree when I was little. It was made out of fiberglass, or something similar. It made a beautiful tree, but you couldn't get near it, cause the stuff would make you itch like crazy!

I wonder if it's the same stuff that I'm thinking of? I have some that I bought a few years ago. I stuff a few handfuls of it into brandy snifters and then drop a garland of red beads on top. I sit two of them on the toilet tank of our guest bathroom. But it never made me itch??

Then it can't be what I'm talking about, that stuff was beautiful to look at, but horrible to touch. I don't even know if they sell it anymore. My grandmother used it in the 60's.

I really have no idea what it could have been... the stuff that I'm referring to is incredibly silky but it too is called "angel hair". Hmmm, interesting! :)

My tree always had a ton of ornaments-- still does! At this point, I have some of my childhood ornaments, and some remain on my mom's tree. It hasn't really changed too much!

yes I do remember decorating our christmas Trees, I got to decortate 2 one at my grandmas and one at my house.

We always had a lot of handmade ornaments or ones that we had picked up when we traveled. Now that I have my own tree, I do the same. Some are handmade, some have come from various trips I've taken.

Much like yourself, it's the tinsel that I remember the most about our trees when I was growing up — probably because I got to help hang it! ;)

I remember the tinsel too. We would put it on strand by strand because it looks so much better that way. Got pretty tedious after a while, but it was worth it. I don't use it now, though.

The thing that was special about my childhood Christmas tree was that I went to bed on Christmas Eve with no tree, bu when I got up on Christmas Eve, I would find that Santa had put up the tree, decorated it, and left me presents.

I remember that green tree that was as old as I could remember. Honestly I don't remember much more till I was around 5th grade and my grandparents started giving us ornaments at Christmas.

Growing up we got a real tree every year. Once it was up, my mom and I would decorate and my mom would often tell stories about different ornaments.
