For more than 45 years, Star Trek has inspired people to explore new worlds, create new tech and reach out to people of other races and cultures. Now, designer Udi Behr is using the classic TV series as inspiration for a new line of jewelry.
Behr wanted to create pieces using the show's iconic images that would appeal to both die-hard fans and the more casual observer. He worked extensively with the well-known Starfleet insignia, using it in a variety of forms.
It's available as a pendant in both titanium and steel, with or without a scattering of colorful crystals.
For the women, the line includes delicate rope bracelets and a charm bracelet featuring Starfleet and Klingon inspired charms.
For the men, there are steel bands with a triangular "Trillium" crystal in the center and a titanium Starfleet command necklace.
Star Trek is an icon in American culture and I tried to create a line of jewelry that will not only speak to the fan community, but will also serve as a great ambassador to an audience that is not as familiar with the franchise.
Though the pieces are fairly abstract, it's hard to imagine anyone who isn't a fan buying and wearing any of these pieces. But for true fans of the series, the designs are meaningful without being costumey. The line is fully licensed by CBS and is available at Amazon starting today.
