In the school year of '98/'99, my last year of High School, I spent a lot of time with my aunt.
She was writing pen-pals at that time. A lot of pen-pals. She had gotten me into pen-palling too, but not nearly to the degree she was.
In fact, she had SO many pen-pals that she didn't write them individually. She wrote a newsletter she called the Pen Pal Post. She would write a personal bit, then fill it with other stuff, poems and jokes and such.
I helped her work on that newsletter and I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT.
I wanted to make one of my own.
This was a want that was compunded when one of MY pen-pals sent me a newsletter she and her sister made. This one was a 4 page wonder called "Teens 4 Jesus" and I was foaming at the mouth to make my own newsletter.
It was a mouth foaming even that never happened.
Fast forward 12 years or so, and the desire to write my own newsletter has never really left me, but it has evolved.
Now I want to put together my own 'zine.
What is a zine? A newsletter on steroids. Or, a DIY magazine. Google it and you'll find tons.
My idea for a Zine includes being a perzine (blogging on paper is how one of my friends described it) and part literary zine, with writings by myself and contributors.
I was talking to Robert about it this morning and said, "I don't know if its something I want to KEEP doing, or if I might do one issue and get it out of my system, but now is as good a time as any to do it.
