As I am German, I should know... right?
The Christmas Pickle and the "legend" and "tradition" behind it is nothing more than a fancy urban legend.
It was not invented in German, we do not have any tradition that includes pickles and this is simply wrong and not true.
The funny thing is, that they have been available to buy in Germany for a few years with the rather funny "Americans think they are German" as a story. Well, just one more reason to find Americans strange ;-P

I think all snacks are Christmas, I guess, at Christmastime! ha ha
I heard somewhere that the pickle is actually Polish.
German Chocolate Cake
What about "Black Forest Cake?" Regardless of where that comes from, I love the stuff!
Hey, one bakery in the black forest produces little cakes in tins... they are especially made for exporting them to the USA, maybe I could get a few of them. I am also curious how THAT might taste *lol*

So if you seriously would eat one, I'd order two :-)
There is a bakery down the street from here that makes something called a Black Forest cake, and IS IT EVER GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!! Chocolate cake with cherries baked right into it (really GOOD chocolate cake!!!!), whipped cream, cherries and real chocolate flakes on top. I always get one every year on my birthday.
