Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

I can remember, as a kid, my mom would always put on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Now, we lived pretty close to NYC, but did not want the hassle of fighting through those crowds, so seeing the parade on tv was always just a-ok for us. I liked seeing all of the balloons and such as a kid, though.

Even now, I still put it on. Moreso as background, but I guess it's just one of those traditions that I find hard to break. And hey, the first balloon was Sonic the Hedgehog, and I'm a big fan, so that was pretty cool.

Also, they're doing a sneak preview of Newsies. I saw it a month or two ago in a smaller playhouse, and my suspicion was right-- they were trying it out there, and now are bringing it to Broadway. Sweet deal! Glad it's getting some recognition, even if they changed it around a bit. They just did a song & dance for the parade, and it was delightful.

And, of course, there's good ol' Al Roker to bring it all together!

So, does anyone else watch? I'm curious to know!

I usually have it on in the background, too. It's not a big deal for me. Growing up in southern California, the big one was the Rose Parade in Pasadena. Big crowds there, too, so usually just watched it on TV. A company I used to work for (Countrywide, now bought by Bank of America) always had an entry, so I would go down to where they built the floats and watch them put on seed by seed, flower by flower. What a lot of work, but so cool!

I bet it was cool to see the floats up close! They take a lot of effort...

Tory, I took a Break from my Kitchen, and Yes, every year I look for to The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I Love watching and hearing it while I'm busy in the kitchen. :)

I'm a Mummer's Parade person and none of these others compare for me. I do have to admit though that the Macy's parade is fun and entertaining.

we have talked with Al Roker in person on several occasions and he is just as great in real life. I miss the Macy's parade since we don't have tv and they don't air on the internet
