Demi Moore generated a tweet back in September that quoted from the Greek philosopher Epictetus:
"When we are offended at any man's fault, turn to yourself & study your own failings. Then you will forget your anger."
then there was yesterday:
"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton," Moore said in statement from her publicist to ABCNews."As a woman, a mother and a wife, there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation."
I would like to focus here not on the Moore/Kutcher marriage, which is over, but rather on the value of humility in human existence, an eternal thing. When we admit our failings and our vulnerabilities, we disarm our enemies and take a first step on the path to a better life.
We don't often look to Hollywood for this lesson on the human heart. But in this case, Demi Moore came through for us. Let's pay attention.
